The temperature is plummeting outdoors causing flash freeze conditions. Freezing rain is beginning to accumulate on trees and surfaces around town. This, coupled with very gusty winds overnight, may result in scattered power outages. The freezing rain is expected to change to snow late tonight. Conditions are already going down hill. If you don't have to be out on the roads, please stay at home.

We just received the latest National Weather Service briefing and it looks like we're in for a good bit of snow tomorrow into Friday. Here's the latest information: - Snow should begin early tomorrow morning (around 5 am) - Conditions will deteriorate as we move toward late morning and early afternoon - The evening commute tomorrow will be slow and hazardous - The heaviest snow will fall overnight into the pre-dawn hours of Friday - Snow should not be wet enough to bring down tree limbs/power lines - Total accumulations 10"-14" are expected. If you don't have to be on the roads tomorrow, please don't be. Per Village of Philmont officials, the Boil Water Advisory issued for the Village drinking water on Thursday has now been lifted.
UPDATE: The Boil Water Advisory is now lifted, per Village officials. Statement from the Village of Philmont: All areas below Prospect Street on Village municipal water are on a boil water advisory until further notice due to a water main break. [This includes Prospect Street itself.] For additional information, contact the Philmont Village Office or check the Village of Philmont website: www.philmont.org. Power has been restored and the warming shelter at the AB Shaw Firehouse is now closed. My thanks to the gang at AB Shaw Fire Company, the linemen from National Grid who had to work in the bitter cold to restore service, and to all the Columbia County public safety agencies who helped us.
We've been monitoring the power outage with National Grid and Columbia County 911 and Emergency Management. National Grid had hoped to have power restored by 7:00 pm, but that has been pushed back to 10:00 pm (and still subject to change). In response to this, we've asked that the A.B. Shaw Firehouse be opened to act as a "warming station" for anyone without power that needs a warm place to go. Spread the word, please! -Kippy
