An open letter to the Board of Supervisors regarding Pine Haven

I am releasing today an open letter to my colleagues on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors regarding Pine Haven Nursing Home.  As you know, much attention has been given to the Home's operating losses in recent months. This has led to a dramatic shift in position of some members of the Board. But I argue that it would be premature to make a decision to privatize Pine Haven now. We simply don't know enough. We haven't, in my opinion, dug deep enough to discover true and accurate data, reasons for the deficits, and options for increasing revenue and improving operational management.

Please take a moment to read and share my letter. I've also included other documents and related items on a new page called "Pine Haven" here on this website.

Pine haven is and has been the home to many in Columbia county. People know they can go there and be cared for properly. Also many residents of Columbia County work there. Whatever happened to keeping money in the county?

I have worked at Pine Haven for 14 years. I love it there. This is my life. The residents are my family. I think it would be a really bad decision to sell. They need to think about us , all of us, residents and employees on what this is going. Why is the decision not made by the tax payers?

I agree it is an immature movement to privatize. Like u said Kippy, we need to take a look at why there are losses. Management needs to be looked at overall operation and decisions need to be made regarding cost effectiveness of operations. I have been employed at Pine Haven for 10 years and can see where things could be improved. It's a great place to work and care is the best I have ever seen. Communication and keeping employees in the loop of things would be appreciated as well.

My Mom resided at Pine Haven from 1984 to 2008. My Dad just went for short term rehab not so long ago. I have worked there for just shy of 30 years!!! This Facility is My life and the life of Past, Present and Future Resident's and Their Families!! Do not be quick in your decision to privatize Pine Haven!!!

I have worked at Pine Haven for almost 36 years and believe it is a HUGE mistake to privatize. I think the Board Members who are so quick to want to sell need to come out and spend time with the residents and see how hard the staff works every day for our Seniors who have paid their dues to Society and deserve nothing but the best.

Please do not privatize pine haven, I was hoping that all the elderly who've lives in the county all their lives, and the ones that works for the county, would've a home to go to , in their time of need....and if it's privatized, at that point of need it would not be county owned
